How does Flagship deal with those funny ?é symbols that appear in data originating from non-English or older file sources?.
Backgrounder: In the 1960s when computers used a 7 bit character system. It had a very simplified alphabet. There were several competing standards from DOS, ANSI, and IBM (called EBCDIC). All of these standards have different ways of storing language accents. Storing file standards have changed a lot over the years. PCs we have gone from DOS format, to Windows ANSI format to UTF-8. The most common is Windows ANSI but moving towards UTF-8.
“Who cares?”, you say.
Well you don’t have to any longer. iAddress V5 inspects data for “Character Set” type during import, standardizes things, and allows you to choose the standards that match the use of your output file.
“The nice thing about standards is that you have so many to choose from.”

Incoming Mail Alert: A New Opportunity for Omnichannel Engagement
Are you a sender or recipient of direct mail? Your perspective may shape how you view Canada Post’s MyMail app and its email notifications—either as a valuable innovation or an added layer of digital clutter.
From a marketer’s standpoint, MyMail represents a compelling opportunity to extend brand reach across channels. By including your registered Canada Post account number in the postal indicia of your mail piece, you can trigger advance notifications to recipients who have opted into the service. This allows your message to appear not only in the physical mailbox but also on mobile devices and inboxes—reinforcing brand visibility at multiple touchpoints.
For organizations currently using a third-party indicium (such as a mail service provider or partner), this is a good time to evaluate the benefits of establishing your own Canada Post account to fully leverage this feature.
For consumers, participation in MyMail is entirely optional. Those who opt in can preview incoming mail, helping them stay on top of bills, statements, and promotional offers. For example, shoppers may access deals earlier, while donors can see how the charities they support—such as UNICEF—are engaging with them, reinforcing connections with the organizations they value.
An additional benefit is the integration of QR codes within direct mail pieces. These codes provide a seamless bridge between physical and digital experiences, directing recipients to videos, donation pages, or product catalogues. This approach strengthens engagement and exemplifies effective omnichannel marketing in today’s environment.
